About me!
Hi! My name is Mrs. Pondel and I am going to tell you a little bit about myself and my family. I graduated from ISU with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with 4 Middle School endorsements. I began teaching at Sunshine Christian Preschool for two years. I started substitute teaching in different local schools. After my son was born, I began my GCMS teaching career. This will be my 13th year teaching in the GCMS School District. I taught third grade for 7 years, 4 years teaching fifth grade, and this is my second year teaching 6th grade Science. While teaching 3rd grade, I went back to ISU and received my Master's Degree in Educational Administration.
I was born and raised in Gibson City so it was very exciting to get a job in the school that I grew up in. My husband, Todd, moved to Gibson City when he was in 7th grade. We will be married 15 years this November. Todd works in Champaign for MUTI and is also Assistant Chief of our Gibson City Fire Department. He is also creates signs, banners, and stickers through our business Pondel Signs and Designs.
Our son, Chase, will be making the journey to 7th grade this year. He was very nervous about starting middle school last year, but he absolutely loves it! Chase enjoys reading, drawing, track, and loves taking Karate. He also likes to work on computers with his dad.
Carmen, our daughter, will be a 5th grader this year. She likes to dance and sing. Carmen also loves her cat, Bella! She enjoys hanging out with her friends and watches everything on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.
Every year I let my class ask questions about me on the first day. Well, here are a few answers to most of the questions I get:
1) Yes, we have a cat named Bella, and yes, I really do hate squirrels!
2) My favorite author is Dean Koontz.
3) All time favorite movie? Tombstone, for sure! Awesome movie! What About Bob? a close second. ("I'm sailing!")
4) In my spare time I like to read, scrapbook and hang out with my family and friends.
5) And yes, I am almost 30 ;)
There you have it! All about Mrs. Pondel. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2014-2015 school year!
